Detailed description
Zubtsov - a small, ancient Russian town, which in 2016 turns 800 years old. The town is located 146 kilometers from Tver, in a very picturesque place, where the Vazuza River flows into the Volga. In 1216 the city of Zubtsov was first mentioned in the annals. The city was founded as an outpost on the edge of Rostov-Suzdal land, and eventually moved to the Tver principality. In 1485, Ivan III annexed the Tver principality to Moscow, and Zubtsov was included in the Moscow principality. In 1780, the city had its own coat of arms: a serrated fortress wall, as a symbol of a border fortress.
By the beginning of the 19th century, when the Vyshnevolotskaya water system was created, the city became an important stopping point on the waterway to the capital - Petersburg. Through the town the barges passed from Rzhev to Tver and Moscow. He was also famous for the fine flax that was grown on the Zubov land. In the town, fairs were often held, where local products were sold - pottery, leather, sheepskin, cattle, and, of course, flax. Before the revolution, there were slightly more than four thousand inhabitants in the city, it was a small uyezd town. After the revolution, Zubtsov remained the center of the agricultural area where flax was grown.
During the Great Patriotic War there were fierce battles here. Memorial was erected in memory of the soldiers who died here.
Zubtsov began to grow rapidly and develop in the 70 years of the XX century, when the city began construction of a hydroelectric complex, which could supply water to Moscow. Then new, modern houses were built, many engineers and workers came to the construction. Currently, the population of Zubtsov is constantly decreasing. But the townspeople still hope that life will again clog the key in their beautiful, ancient city.
