Detailed description
Vyborg - a city in the Leningrad region. It has a rich history. Renowned historian Tatishchev, based on data Ioakimovskaya chronicles, not preserved to our days, credited with founding the city of Vyborg Novgorod Elder Gostomysl in the 9th century. However, this fact is not confirmed by other sources, and officially accepted that the Swedes founded in 1293, the year on the site of the modern city of Vyborg Castle. It was built during the Crusades as a frontier fortress to spread the influence of the Swedes on the territory of the Karelian Isthmus. Location of the castle location was so impregnable that several centuries no one was able to subdue him.
In 1403, the year of Vyborg were granted "town privileges" the Swedish king. The city has grown rapidly and become a large shopping center. In the 17th century, densely built-up in the main town of wooden houses a few times completely burned during the fires. And in 1639, the year after a fire, the city was completely rebuilt.
The Northern War Vyborg again become a military fortress. In 1710, the year he was taken by the Russian troops, and from 1721, the year after the signing of a peace treaty, is a part of Russia.
For the city entered a period of rapid growth and development. The influx of Russian immigrants has dramatically increased population, the proximity of the capital had a positive effect on the development of trade and economy.
After the proclamation in 1917 of Finland's independence and the civil war, Vyborg into the center of military operations. After the retreat of the Red Army is completely under the influence of the Finnish Government.
In November 1939 the war broke out, in which Finland was defeated, and the Vyborg moved to the Soviet Union.
