Detailed description

Tula for Moscow defensive operation, which lasted 43 days began October 24, 1941. Tula was one of the main goals of the German operations in the capture of Moscow.

Tula Soviet troops who were surrounded and exposed to artillery and mortar fires, as well as air strikes, helped to stabilize the front line located on the southern outskirts of Moscow. The main aim of the operation of German troops "Typhoon" was not achieved: the resistance of Soviet troops is not broken, and the capital is not captured. Despite the difficult situation at the front, and the evacuation of most of the Tula enterprises in eastern regions of the country, the defense industry has continued to operate.

December 7, 1976, for the courage and resilience, which played an important role during the Second World War in defeating the enemy near Moscow, Tula was awarded the honorary title "Hero City".

Higher degree of difference "Hero City" Order of Lenin and medal "Gold Star" awarded the city of Tula in 1976 for the heroism and courage of its defenders, manifested in the struggle for freedom and independence of their country in World War II.
