Detailed description

The population of the town of Stary Oskol, which is located in the Kursk region, learned about the attack of Hitler's army to noon June 22, 1941. By three o'clock the mobilization of the population was in full swing. Martial law was introduced in the city on 23 June. They began to open military hospitals, have begun to form assault battalions and detachments of the People's Militia.

Soviet soldiers heroically defended the south-east of the country, but could not hold back the offensive of the German troops. In October 1941, he was put Belgorod in November - Kursk. Soviet troops, after a grand victory at Stalingrad, in the second half of January 1943 began the liberation Starooskolya. 5 February, after several weeks of fighting, German troops were driven out of the city. On the territory of the region laid down their lives around 7000 soldiers.
