Detailed description

Heroic Rzhev was among the first cities in Russia, which have names in the honorary list of "Cities of Military Glory."

Multiple combat sorties, long battles and military operations that the Soviet command organized in Rzhev and the surrounding area, with varying degrees of success lasted for more than 1 year and three months - until the end of the forty-third in March.

"Rzhevskij pot" - one of the most tragic World War II, when a little more than a year, the loss of Soviet soldiers, according to various estimates, there were about half a million soldiers. Rzhev itself destroyed almost completely, had survived only 150 residents when rzhevityan before the war there were about fifty thousand.

The military operations of the "Rzhev salient" had very serious strategic importance, restraining forces of Nazi regiments in the capital direction and thereby protecting Moscow.
