Detailed description
The Republic of Buryatia is located in the heart of Asia, occupying the eastern and southern coast of Lake Baikal. Buryatia is a federal unit of Russia. In ancient times, there already existed an advanced civilization of the nomads, marked the 13 th century, the beginning of the Great Mongol Empire, when Genghis Khan was able to consolidate his power most nations of Central Asia. In this historical period the Buryats and other peoples of Transbaikalia with the Mongols participated in the conquest wars of Genghis Khan.
In the 16th century began the development of Siberia by the Russian Empire. Cossacks led by Ermak moved farther to the Urals, to the east, raising on his way Russian fortresses, settlements and towns. In 1666, the year was based on the river Uda fortress, subsequently overgrown to a major shopping city Verkhneudinsk now bears the name of Ulan-Ude. This is the modern capital of the Buryat Republic.
The geographical position of the Republic of Buryatia has allowed to form a completely unique nature. Baikal - mostly mountainous terrain, cut off from the world's oceans influence remoteness inland, as well as numerous mountain ranges of the Himalayas and Tibet. Here there was a harsh climate with large temperature variations. Buryatia is located in the permafrost zone. Short cool summer and prevents develop agriculture. But its subsoil rich in mineral deposits. Currently it is developed in Buryatia more than 700 deposits of various mineral resources.
The pearl of Buryatia is Baikal. Its unique nature reserve and is considered to be included in 1996 by UNESCO in the World Heritage list.
