Detailed description
The attack on the Kwantung Army began August 9, 1945 Soviet troops were inflicted air strikes on the city of Harbin, Xinjing, Jilin. At the same time the Soviet Pacific front cut shipping lanes between Manchuria, which was stationed in the Kwantung Army and Japan. Transbaikal Front's troops launched an offensive from the territory of Mongolia, the Gobi desert and overcome entered into Manchuria, the Kwantung Army cut off from the main land forces of Japan.
The compounds of the Red Army advanced deep into Northeast China at 400-800 km and dismembered the forces of the Kwantung Army into several factions. August 14, 1945 Japan's emperor ordered the surrender, after which most of the Kwantung Army stopped the resistance, but some groups have tried to take refuge in northern Manchuria. 18-27 August 1945, Soviet airborne divisions landed in Harbin, Fantyane, Hsinking, Jilin and other cities. Demoralized and lost some units of the Kwantung Army central management could not offer serious resistance to the Soviet paratroopers and the beginning of September 1945 the remnants of the Japanese forces were completely destroyed.
