The autumn of 1944 the Soviet Command from 14 September to 24 November, successfully conducted the Baltic operation, which lasted 71 days.
The Germans clung to one of the most important areas - the Baltic states, to supply their troops with food and raw materials, as well as providing a link with the Scandinavian countries. Based on the natural features (swamps, rivers and lakes), the Nazis staged a powerful defensive barricades in several bands. The main blow to the German High Command expected the Riga area, so the most powerful defenses were built there.
The Soviet Union through the introduction of provisions in the Baltic States was able to provide superior military forces, including the technique of more than 2 times. Invaluable assistance was provided by the Baltic partisans and national liberation forces.
conditional operation was divided into two stages. The main direction of motion of the Soviet troops in the first two weeks was concentrated on the Riga direction. However, after the decisive German resistance rate decided on the transfer of the main forces in the direction of Memel. By September 27 the majority of Estonia, except for some islands, liberated from the invaders.

The result of the Baltic operations was the liberation from German occupation in Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia more than thirty five thousand settlements. In addition, the victory at the site of the Soviet army accelerated the exit of Finland out of the war.
