Detailed description

Historically, that the act of unconditional surrender of Germany was signed twice. Initially, the Wehrmacht commander in chief of the forces of General Jodl May 2, 1945 proposed to begin peace talks, but Marshal Zhukov and Eisenhower clearly stated that we can talk only about the surrender. Then Jodl spoke to Eisenhower with a proposal to surrender to the Allied troops on May 10, which again was rejected - an act to be signed as soon as possible. Jodl was forced to agree. From the side of the Allies to sign was seconded General Beddel Smith, from the USSR Eisenhower proposed to sign a contract to General IA Susloparov. That, in turn, sought to Moscow, but just did not get a response. Meanwhile, the deadline was approaching prospective signing, and it turned out that the Soviet Union may not be represented at the signing of the Act about the surrender of Germany. At your own risk Susloparov decided to represent the Soviet Union without the approval of Moscow.

The act of surrender was signed on May 7, 1945 in 2 hours 40 minutes CET. By virtue of the act came on 8 May at 23:00. Susloparov achieved inclusion in the contract of special note in which, in the case of objective necessity, the contract can be signed again with a party allies. On the morning of May 7th from Moscow came to a belated response - Susloparov not allowed to participate in the signing of an agreement under the auspices of the Allies. But the contract had already been signed, Moscow General explained the situation and change anything because it was already impossible, Stalin decided not to punish Susloparova and use them embossed perepodpisanie amendment to the agreement under the auspices of the USSR. The new agreement was signed on May 8 at 22 hours 43 minutes CET, in Moscow it was already May 9 (0 hours 43 minutes). In the night from 8 to 9 May the surrender of Germany was announced on behalf of the Soviet Information Bureau famous announcer Yuri Levitan. In the evening, May 9, 1945 salute was given in Moscow. The war in Europe ended.
