Vienna operation started March 16, 1945, after a massive artillery barrage on the offensive moved troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. April 5, 1945, the Red Army from the south came to Vienna. 7 April 9th Guards Army and the 6th Panzer Army Soviet mountain-breaking array Vienna Woods came to the Danube. The German group was blocked from the east, south and west, and April 13, 1945 ceased resistance. Vienna came under the control of the Soviet troops.
