Detailed description

May 5, 1945 the inhabitants of the occupied Prague revolted against the German contingent. In the insurgent splinter help came from the German first division collaborationist Russian Liberation Army (ROA). Initially, the rebels captured a number of strategically important points of the city, but on May 8th ROA fighters left the town and street fighting between the rebels and the German contingent moved into a protracted phase.

At the same time, the Americans informed the Soviet command of his intention not to move on the territory of Czechoslovakia east of Plzen. At the headquarters of the 1st Ukrainian Front have decided to put forward in the direction of Prague. May 9, 1945 advanced units of the 3rd and 4th Guards Army entered Prague, helping the rebels residents. The city came under the control of the Red Army. The troops of the Wehrmacht and the SS retreated toward the western border of Czechoslovakia. 10-13 May 1945 passed the systematic persecution of the retreating German units and 12 May was arrested commander General Vlasov ROA.

Retreating German troops planned to reach US zone of responsibility and surrender to the US Army. However, the commander of the 3rd US Army refused to accept the surrender of the Germans, and they dug in near the town of Pribram. In the course of more than a day-long battle group was destroyed by the German advance units of the 1st Ukrainian Front.
