Detailed description

The Siege of Leningrad lasted for a grueling 872 days, from September 1941 and led to the death of about one million civilians in the city, and the defenders of the Red Army.

During the blockade of the city constantly bombed, not enough food and fuel, in winter the temperature dropped to -40 degrees. Despite the cold and hunger, the city did not surrender to the enemy, the people continued to work in the factories without roofs, military production, which has been vital in repelling enemy attacks.

The coin shows the road of life, which was laid on the ice of Lake Ladoga. As it supplied the city with food and military supplies, people were evacuated from the besieged city.

Higher degree of difference "Hero City" Order of Lenin and medal "Gold Star" is assigned to the city of Novorossiysk in 1973 for the heroism and courage of its defenders, manifested in the struggle for freedom and independence of their country in World War II.
