Detailed description

Mtsensk - a very old city, which is at the dawn of its existence, entered the Chernigov principality. First mentioned in chronicles of Patriarch Nikon, or in 1146, the year named Mtsenesk.

The city is situated on a tributary of the Oka - Zouche. On the high left bank is the old town with its churches, cathedrals and monasteries. There's also built railway station. On the lower right - a modern center, the city administration, the majority of residential areas.

Home town of Mtsensk gave the fortress, which was built on the mountain Samorodov. Naturally fortified fortress became Zusha steep banks of the river and its tributary flowing through the ravines Mtsena (Metsn).

Residents of Mtsensk long remained pagans. Only in 1415, the year after the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas, the first temple was built, and Christianity came to this earth.

In 1238, the year of Chernigov lands were predatory invasion of the Mongols, and Batu Khan. Mtsensk was almost completely destroyed.

Since 1320, the year the city belonged to the Duchy of Lithuania. And in 1505, the year finally passed under the authority of the Moscow Tsars.
