Detailed description

Three painfully long years the Belarusian land suffered from fascist atrocities. Punishers burned people alive, killed, tortured, tortured in death camps, and taken to slavery in Germany. People suffered from hunger and cold, lived in dugouts, were in constant fear. During the German occupation, one in four people perished in Belarus. Only the hope of liberation supported the forces, helping to survive the terrible time. And liberation came.

On June 23, 1944, the Belarusian operation of our troops began. In Byelorussia, the Nazis built a deep defense (up to 270 km). The powerful defensive lines and the rugged terrain severely hampered our troops in the offensive in Byelorussia. The border seemed impregnable. The operation to liberate Belarus promised to be very difficult. But they carefully prepared for it. Before the offensive began, the sappers secretly made passages in the minefields of the enemy, sent dozens of crossings across rivers, troops received equipment, transport, tractors, and self-propelled artillery. And on June 23, 1944, three years after the outbreak of the war, retribution finally came. The front was broken, and by July 4, German groups were surrounded in the area of Minsk, Vitebsk, Bobruisk, Mogilev and Orsha. Great help to our army was rendered by the Belarusian partisans. The Germans were unable to deter the offensive of our troops. The front collapsed. July 3, 1944 was liberated the capital of Belarus - the city of Minsk. And by August 1944 our troops had reached the border of East Prussia. The German Army Group Center was defeated.

Together with the army of liberators, the poet Alexander Tvardovsky entered Minsk. He saw the maimed Minsk, the ruins of destroyed houses, fires, automatic rifles were heard on the western outskirts of the city. Tvardovsky wrote a poem in which there are such lines:

... The pillar is tearing up the scree,

To the west the street is on fire,

And tanks for the city take

"Hooray" infantry on the armor...

There will be a plow on their graves,

Will cover their memory with a layer.

And the world will be a pleasant backwater

War, extinguished by fire.

And pointing to these lands

The grandchildren of the present guys,

The teacher at school will say: "Children,

Here the Germans were a century ago.

These verses turned out to be prophetic. Our army liberated many towns and villages from the Hitlerites, various states, and their capitals (Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Warsaw, Belgrade, Riga, Tallinn, Bucharest, Chisinau, Vilnius, Kiev). Many years passed, and in these European states the exploit of our soldiers is forgotten, their memory is mocked, calling the warriors dead the occupiers. Of all the countries liberated by our army, Belarus is the only one that still honors the memory of our heroes, and this causes great respect to the Belarusian people and the Belarusian state.
