Detailed description
Russian troops headed by Field Marshal Kutuzov, 19 October 1812 moved in the direction of Maloyaroslavets where rushed to the remnants of Napoleon's troops, who had hoped for a successful retreat to Kaluga and further west on the countryside is not plundered.
October 24 in the town of Maloyaroslavets bloody battle erupted between the forces of Russian and French. Eighth time the city was in the hands of the enemy and successfully fought off the soldiers of the Russian army.
Remains of Napoleonic forces failed to break into the Kaluga tract to areas rich in food supplies. Bonaparte's army was forced to flee Russia for its plunder of Smolensk same path. Now the military initiative is firmly kept in the hands of the Russian command.
Napoleon clearly realized the collapse of their plans of conquest and tried by all means to evade any clashes that are imposed to him the Russian army.
