Detailed description
Lvov-Sandomierz Offensive took place in the western territories of Ukraine in the summer of 1944. Her goal was the final liberation from the Nazis Western Ukrainian regions and the south-eastern Polish territories. South Poland was of strategic importance for Hitler, so the protection of German positions in this sector was given a lot of attention. The Germans were able to organize 2 defense line about 50 kilometers deep.
July 13 at two areas - Rava-Russian and Lviv, Soviet troops went on the offensive. By July 17 the first direction the defense of the German troops had been broken, Ukrainian Front entered the territory of Poland. In Lviv direction the Nazis were able to repulse the first strike, at the time of pushing the Red Army. But by 18 the number of defensive line here also was broken. After 4 days, 8 German divisions numbering more than 47 thousand people liquidated in Brody district. With the support of the Polish partisan units even after 4 days they were released Lvov and Przemysl.
