Detailed description

On the territory of modern Leningrad region the first people settled as far back as the Mesolithic period, immediately after the retreat of the glacier. In the middle of the first millennium there lived Finno-Ugric tribes, major fisheries were hunting and fishing, and later agriculture and animal husbandry. The first Slavs settled on the land in the 8th century.

Approximately 750-year old Slavic settlement emerged Ladoga, which is 9-10 x century became the center of the origin and formation of Russian statehood. At the end of the 10th century Ladoga lost its value due to the development and prosperity of the Novgorod principality. Until the 13th century, these lands were part of the Novgorod region.
