Detailed description

The small town of Kronstadt on Kotlin Island covers the sea route to St. Petersburg. Hitler considered the problem of capture of the city is more important than the attack on Moscow, due to its strategic location.

The main base of the Baltic Fleet was located in Kronstadt in August 1941, after the capture of Tallinn. Command took the towers of the city - were built bunkers in the forts, artillery intensified. Baltic Fleet sailors fought on land, desperately defending Leningrad from the Nazi troops.

In September, it began a powerful bombardment ships, standing on the protection of the border, heavy guns and air strikes. The Nazis sought to sink as many ships as possible to destroy the artillery positions and businesses. Injured Marine Yard and the Naval Hospital, were destroyed water and power. In Kronstadt dropped leaflets threatening to raze it with water, and Leningrad - the ground.

Residents Kronstadt grown vegetables, using every available piece of land. Crops were on the shoreline, harvest accounted for under the fire of guns. People gather mushrooms and berries, fished. This allowed not to depend on food deliveries and help to Leningrad in the most difficult days, when there was the opening of the road of life.

Kronstadt ships delivered in Leningrad tools and techniques. Minesweepers under enemy fire neutralizes minefields.
