Detailed description

Kostroma - an ancient city in north-eastern Russia. There was a settlement at the confluence of the Volga and Kostroma rivers so that a modern city is cut by the water surface in several parts. It was founded in 1152 is considered to be the year when developed its activities in the area Prince Yuri Dolgoruky. The exact date of the historical sources do not indicate, and the first mention of Kostroma recorded in 1213-th year in connection with the strife the sons of Prince Vladimir Vsevolod. In that year Prince Constantine of Rostov burned the town of Kostroma, because residents supported his half-brother Prince George.

In 1272, the year of Kostroma Duke Vasily Yaroslavovich was proclaimed Grand Duke. He decided not to move to Vladimir and Kostroma organized capital.

Since 1364, the year Kostroma joined the Moscow principality and its further development to move in step with the growth of the Russian state. In 1419, the year the wooden town was moved to a new location, which was the Kostroma Kremlin. Cathedral of the Assumption - where the first stone was laid and the building erected.

In the early 17th century Kostroma twice occupied and robbed Poles. But not only this famous city of history. Kostroma troops in 1609, the year drove the False Dmitry II of the Ipatiev Monastery, supported militia Minin and Pozharsky.
