In the northern part of the Arctic zone of Russia is the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district. Samoyed peoples - Nenets, once inhabited southern Siberia near the Arctic Ocean, were a modern living area more than a thousand years ago. Approximately 84% of the population lives in cities.
