Detailed description
Moscow has earned the right to be called the capital of Russia. It has long been a symbol of courage and Russian hospitality Russian culture and valor. This is the most numerous and most populous city in Russia (population according to data of 2010 census, more than 12 million people). Moscow is among the ten largest cities in the world.
While the oldest archaeological finds on the territory of modern Moscow belong to the Stone Age, the first time in the annals of history about it is mentioned in the 1147th year. Then in Moscow Yury Dolgoruky took its Novgorod-Seversky allies. In 1156, the year the first wooden fortifications were erected around the settlement.
In 1237, the year Moscow was robbed and almost completely burned. However, she quickly recovered in the second half of the 13th century became the capital of an independent principality. But after joining the Mozhaisk and Kolomna principalities, rapidly ascended as the center of the Grand Duchy of Moscow.
In the 14th century, moved to Moscow residence of the metropolitans, in 1589, the year formed the Moscow Patriarchate - is to turn the city into a major religious center.
