Detailed description

In 1812, when war broke out with France, Yermolov was promoted to the rank of general. He became chief of staff of the military unit of the first Western army deployed on Russia's western border, where Napoleon began his invasion of the country. His chief merit was the unification of the Smolensk 1st and 2nd Russian armies.

Under pressure from the numerically superior enemy forces, Russian army was forced to retreat, although its fierce resistance dramatically slowed the offensive in France and led to huge losses in the ranks of the Great Army of Napoleon.

Solutions Alexei Petrovich Yermolov, experienced, cunning and brave officer - sometimes seemed a complete surprise to the enemy. In one battle, he allowed the French to come so close to his artillery positions that the enemy was confident of victory.

Seeing that the French managed to break through the defense and Bagration was mortally wounded, he immediately took command of an infantry battalion and led him to the counter. After the position was eventually repulsed, Yermolov personally supervised the battery fire, until he was injured and he was not taken away from the battlefield.

Yermolov participated in all the military campaigns against Napoleon from the first until the last day of the war. His troops pursued the retreating enemy until the last French soldier left the territory of our country.
