Detailed description
Jewish Autonomous Oblast (EAO) is located in the Far East, and is part of the Far Eastern Federal District. The region's capital - the city of Birobidzhan. The main resource of the region is fertile land and the taiga. The climate contributes to the development of agriculture is favorable for the cultivation of many crops, including melons. The forests are storehouses of berries, mushrooms, medicinal plants, furs, venison, valuable timber. On the territory of the JAR flow large rivers, reservoirs are rich in fish (70 species).
Jewish Autonomous Region has a peculiar history of its formation. Tsarist Russia adhered to its policy of anti-Semitism, Jews constantly oppressed in their rights, evicted in certain areas. Mass riots have set up the bulk of the Jewish population in support of the February and October revolutions, and after 1917.
In the formed Soviet state official fighting anti-Semitism was raised Jewish citizens began to attract productive work. In 1928, the year the country's leadership had decided to allocate in the Amur region of free land for the settlement of the Jewish workers. And in 1934, the district formed was given the status of the Jewish Autonomous Region. From that moment on the territory allocated to settlers began to move, but over the lifetime of the field Jews never constituted a majority. After the mass exodus in the 90 years of the Jews to Israel in the territory of the Jewish Autonomous Region their number greatly declined. In 2010, Jews made up about 1% of the total population of the region. Now we are discussing the abolition of the autonomy project in the region and adherence to the Amur region or Khabarovsk region.
