Detailed description
At 65 kilometers north of the capital of Russia is the ancient city of Dmitrov. In 1154 Yuri Dolgoruky was born the son of Vsevolod, at baptism received the name of Dmitry. In his honor is based on the river Yakhroma city became a fortress on the border of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. Along the rivers and Sister Yakhroma Dmitrov passed through a water trade route from the northern territories. It delivered the goods by land to the Klyazma, and from there to Vladimir and later to Moscow.
During the princely feuds 13-14 centuries the city passed from one principality to another, until in 1364 was not included in the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Several times in the Dmitrov attacked the Tatar-Mongols, subjecting it to plunder, ruin and even burned.
In the first half of the 16th century came the greatest flowering of the city. Successfully developed trade with the north, was built Cathedral of the Assumption. However, the oprichnina and the Polish intervention resulted in Dmitrov in the strongest decline. After the unification of Russia had lost the status of a border fortress, and water trade routes ceased to exist until the construction of St. Petersburg.
A new round of development associated with the construction of the city through the Moscow Canal in the 30s of the 20th century. Build industrial companies for the construction, the population has grown. In 41 of the same century in the Dmitrov district of Moscow fought with the Nazis, Soviet defenders.
An interesting historical feature is the fact that the city is famous for its bagels and cakes. Printed cakes welcomed special guests, instead of a round loaf with salt.
