Detailed description
In late October, forty-fourth year of the Soviet High Command launched the offensive in Hungary in order to free it from the German troops. The operation was called "Budapest". The attack on Nazi positions participated Hungarian troops of volunteers, including 300 of the Hungarian army on February 11, have taken the side of the liberators.
By the beginning of the operation, Hitler waged battles on three fronts - from Italy, France and the Soviet Union. The invaders almost lost their air force, suffered considerable losses in the industry and also lost the support of the three allies: Finland, Bulgaria and Romania. Hitler did his best to keep Hungary, is a supplier of oil to the Nazi troops. Budapest was seriously strengthened and around the city built three lines of defense.
The beginning of the operation is considered on 29 October. After 4 days of the Soviet Union troops came to Budapest from the south, and by November 26, in the north-west. On December 26, the capital of the environment has been completed. Fierce battles for the liberation of the city lasted six weeks. Through established in a short time, defense-in-depth and efficient exploration activities, timely detect the movement of the German units of the Red Army was able to reflect all three counterblow fascists. The eastern part of the city was captured by January 18, 1945, and it was completely released on 13 February.
Budapest operation led to the liberation of the capital of Hungary and central regions of the country. Hungary was withdrawn from the war, and almost 190 thousand fascists who were in Budapest, were defeated. The defeat hastened the withdrawal of German troops from Yugoslavia. The Soviet Union was able to continue moving in the direction of Austria and Czechoslovakia.
