Detailed description
Berlin operation was the final strategic offensive operations of the Soviet troops to the triumphant end of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the completion of World War II in Europe.
Planning for combat operations to capture Berlin began the leadership of the General Staff in November 1944. Before the Red Army command was put the main objective to defeat the German Army Group "A", the completion of the liberation of Poland and the capture of Berlin.
Berlin offensive operation lasted 23 days, during which the Soviet army advanced on the western direction in different locations from one hundred to 220 kilometers. The heroic attack on Berlin was attended by troops of I Byelorussian, Ukrainian I and II Byelorussian fronts. Front fighting was about 300 kilometers. The command of the marshals of the USSR carried out Rokossovsky KK, GK Zhukov and Konev I.
Sturm German capital began on April 16, 1945. Attack of the Soviet troops began a 3 o'clock in the morning when the spotlight. After 4 days, Berlin was closed in a ring.
As a result of our operations in captivity got about 490000 people, completely destroyed 93 German divisions, captured a huge number of trophies in the form of weapons and equipment. At the same time, from German captivity were released more than 200,000 citizens of foreign countries, hundreds of thousands of Soviet people were able to return home.
The absolute success of the Berlin operation led to a complete disorganization of the German armed forces and end their resistance. This high degree of combat capability of the Soviet Red Army was demonstrated.
