Detailed description

In the north of ancient Russia in the middle of the ninth century there was a town of Belozersk. It was built on the north shore of White Lake, who gave it its name. Twice in its history, the city was transferred. The first time - in the tenth century because of possible flooding, the second time - in the fourteenth century because of the pestilence, which destroyed almost all of its population. However, each time a new place to Belozersk chosen in accordance with the Slavic tradition - on the beach, the water, and the town itself was revived and became more successful and richer.

Since its founding Belozersk actively developed, engaged in trade and crafts. Finding him at a major trade routes linking the northern lands, Karelia, Novgorod with Kiev principality, the Volga region, brought him constant gain and wealth. Therefore, for the possession Belozersky were constantly strife, and it passed from hand to hand neighboring principalities.

In the fourteenth century, the city reached its peak. Under the authority of the Moscow principality, he became a border fortress. At this time built Belozersky Kremlin - a huge earth walls and wooden walls, which have survived to the present day. Most of the temples and churches in the city then built the same.

T. k. Belozersk was on the border of the Russian state, it is often subjected to raids and devastation, disease epidemic gradually reduced the number of its inhabitants. Gradually, trade routes moved to Arkhangelsk and the share of Belozersk went decline.
