Detailed description

"Operation Bagration" - the summer of 1944 the largest offensive of World War II was held from 23 June to 29 August. The positions of German troops have been thoroughly studied in the scale of intelligence. Germany was not ready to attack Soviet troops in this direction, waiting for the continuation of the fighting on the part of Ukraine.

The High Command of the USSR did their best to cover up preparations for an offensive that Hitler was not able to guess their plans. The preponderance of force was on the side of the Soviet Union by 2 times the number of troops, more than 3 times the number of guns and planes and 5 times the number of tanks. Strong support was the guerrilla movement, setting bridges, railways and communication lines, about ten thousand rounds of which were found only a third part.

25 June 3rd Infantry Division and 2 aviapolevye Nazis were rounded up in the Vitebsk region. By taking 22 unsuccessful attempts to break through the encirclement, the Germans were forced to surrender after 3 days. At the same time we conducted operations for the liberation of Bobruisk, Mogilev and Polotsk. The rest of the German troops began to retreat to Minsk by Soviet aircraft bombing and guerrilla attacks. The capital of Belarus released on 3 July. But after 5 days the command of the German units surrounded near Minsk, gave the order to surrender. The loss of those killed and wounded in the ranks of the Nazis were huge, thousands of soldiers and officers were taken prisoner.

In the second phase of the battle the Red Army continued to advance towards the old borders of the USSR - freeing the city of the Baltic states and Poland. As a result, Belarus has been completely cleared of invaders, as well as a large part of Lithuania and Latvia. Continued retreat of the German fascist forces to the former borders of East Prussia.
